The history of Motiongate Dubai begins with the initiation of the concept of Dubai Parks and Resorts, a massive entertainment one-stop destination spanning over 25 million square feet. The project was initiated by Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with the aim of diversifying the Emirate's tourism offerings and establishing Dubai as a leading global entertainment hub.

Construction of the Dubai Parks and Resorts complex began in 2014, and Motiongate Dubai was one of the key parks planned for the development. The park was designed as a partnership between Dubai Parks and Resorts and Lionsgate, DreamWorks Animation, and Sony Pictures Studios. This collaboration allowed Motiongate Dubai to bring some of the most beloved movie franchises to life.
